Sonnet Says: VIDCON!!

15/06/2012

VidCon. VIDCON. Can you belive that in a less than TWO WEEKS VidCon will be upon us? Even for VidCon veterans, the convention can be pretty overwhelming so here are five tips to help you survive the most awesome day of the year.

Tip Number One: Relax!

Seriously! You’re inevitably going to be nervous because of the sheer magnitude and awesomeness of VidCon and it’s very easy to get overwhelmed by all the stuff that’s going on but take a deep breath and relax. I

Tip Number Two: Have a plan of action

If you don’t get to go to every panel or meet every celebrity don’t let it get you down! If you want to avoid missing anything, however, it’s a good idea to take a look at your VidCon guide (they pass them out to every attendee) and plan out a rough schedule of what you want to do and who you want to see. If you have an approximate plan of action it will help things go a lot more smoothly.

Tip Number Three: Everyone is your friend

Really! Just about everyone at VidCon is going to be very easy going and friendly and just all around gosh darn pleasant. Don’t be nervous to talk to anyone! I made a really good friend at VidCon last year because I complimented their outfit. VidCon is like a warm fuzzy glowing stew of friendship so don’t be afraid to taste it! Yeah that metaphor didn’t go quite where I wanted it to.

Tip number 4: Don’t forget to eat

With all the excitement it can be really easy to forget your basic needs. Make sure you at least have a granola bar or some fresh fruit with you to keep your energy up.

~Editor’s Addition: Make sure to eat as healthy as possible.  I hear every year about how people get the VidCon plague.  If you remember to eat your fruits, veggies and maybe a yogurt or two not only will you keep your energy up you just might survive without getting sick.

Tip Number Five: Have fun!

This one seems obvious but seriously; don’t forget that meeting “famous YouTubers” aside, you are there to have as much fun as you possibly can in the span of two days so revel in it!

I hope this has been helpful in some way! If you see me at VidCon don’t be afraid to say hello! *

Sonnet Says: Books

01/06/2012

Are any of you members of the website goodreads.com? If not, then I suggest you familiarize yourself with it as quickly as possible, for it is a magnificent resource for keeping track of all the books you’ve ever read or want to read. It allows you to classify materials into three categories: read, currently-reading and to-read. It then lets you rate each book on a five star scale. Pretty nifty, huh?

This article, however, is not a goodreads promotion, though goodreads did help me write this. The topic this week is is to list my top five favorite books and to tell you why I’m going to read the book I’m going to read next. My least favorite type of questions to answer are those that pertain to listing any kind of favorite anything. Aye me! Let the torture begin.
It shouldn’t be so difficult to pick a favorite, I know! It’s just that that my attention is so fickle regarding books. For weeks I might devour every fantasy book I can get my hands on and then suddenly I will develop a craving for recipe and cookbooks. Simply put, I just can’t bring myself to narrow down the list of books I have read to five ultimate titles that describe my over all tastes.

And because of that here’s a list of five assorted books. There is no particular theme or genre to thread them together besides the fact that I thoroughly enjoyed them:

  1. Stardust by Neil Gaiman
  2.  Inkheart by Cornelia Funke
  3. Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen
  4. The Gospel According to Larry by Janet Tashjian
  5.  The Princess Bride by William Goldman

Now, I am to tell you what book I am going to read next and why. This question is much easier to answer, as I am just about to start reading Mort by Terry Pratchett. I am working my way through the Discworld series (a series that I highly recommend) and boy is it fantastic.

I hope I was able to give you guys a few good suggestions for summer reading! Have fun and DFTBA.
